On a hill above the Greve valley stands the Castello di Verrazzano – a wine estate, a place steeped in history and one of the closest outings from Le Rondini.
Birthplace of a navigator
According to tradition, Giovanni da Verrazzano was born here in 1485. In 1524, in the service of the King of France, he explored the east coast of North America and became the first European to enter the bay of present-day New York. The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge there bears his name.
A long winemaking tradition
Vineyards and olive groves surround the castle. The estate produces Chianti Classico and other wines as well as olive oil. On guided tours you learn about the history of the place, see the historic cellars and taste the estate's wines.
