With its mighty round towers, Castello di Meleto is one of the most impressive castles in Chianti – and one of the few you can visit inside.
Medieval architecture
The castle near Gaiole in Chianti is mentioned as early as the Middle Ages and long stood in the border area between Florence and Siena. Its round towers tell of those turbulent times.
Later Meleto was converted into a country residence. A special feature is the small 18th-century theatre inside.
Wine and local history
Today Meleto is a wine estate with vineyards all around the castle. Guided tours show the historic rooms, the theatre and the cellars, and end with a tasting of the estate's wines.
