Greve is the nearest village and, for many guests, the first outing: a lively market town in the heart of Chianti Classico, just a few minutes' drive away.
A market square with a history
Greve grew up as a trading post where important routes between Florence and Siena met. Its heart is the triangular Piazza Matteotti, surrounded by arcades. In the middle stands a statue of the navigator Giovanni da Verrazzano, who was born nearby.
Wine, olive oil and local specialities
Under the arcades you will find wine shops, delicatessens and traditional butchers selling Tuscan salami and ham. Greve is a good place to taste and buy Chianti Classico and olive oil from the area.
Every September the village celebrates its wine with the Expo del Chianti Classico.
Not to be missed
- Piazza MatteottiAn espresso under the arcades is part of every visit.
- Wine shops and enotecasTaste Chianti Classico from several estates in one place.
- Local marketsAt the weekly market, local producers sell vegetables, cheese and specialities.

Our tip
Combine shopping in Greve with a walk up to Montefioralle. In the early evening, when the heat fades, the little village is especially atmospheric.
